Working with Emily brought many memories to the forefront: some happy, some ridiculous, and some rather sad. But what was most valuable to me was our commonality of experiences; I'd spent so much time in therapy for food issues throughout my life and none of my psychotherapists understood. Emily 'got it' right away. It is a great adventure of your mind and spirit to be challenged by Emily!
After reading Emily's book, I knew she could help me heal. I also knew that I needed someone to hold me accountable and to encourage me along the way, which is exactly what she did. In the end, I got clarity and acceptance; and I learned how valuable it is to write down my thoughts and give them a space to breathe outside of my head. My words and thoughts have power, and that by giving them a space, I can move on and heal.
I attended a workshop that Emily ran and I was very impressed with both her personal story and how she has brought healing to herself and others. I liked the idea of writing because I believe writing can be a powerful way to express oneself, especially with difficult/intimate topics. I found that writing allows me to more fully express my experiences that have been wounding than talk therapy. And talking with Emily afterward was thought-provoking; She provided great insights and further things to think about.
